Discover how to complete the Old Rattle-Drum quest in Black Myth Wukong. Learn where to find and use this mysterious item for rewards.
The Old Rattle-Drum is a key item you’ll come across in Black Myth Wukong. It’s not immediately clear what to do with it but don’t worry. This guide will walk you through the entire Old Rattle-Drum quest in Black Myth Wukong step by step.
First things first you need to get the Old Rattle-Drum. You’ll find it in Chapter 2 in the Yellow Wind Formation area. To reach this spot you’ll need to beat a few bosses first:
Once you’ve done that head to the Windrest Hamlet Keeper’s Shrine. From there go across the nearby bridge and down the path on your left. You’ll see a chest with some Silk. Keep going left and you’ll come to a bigger bridge. This is where you’ll face the Tiger’s Acolyte.
The Tiger’s Acolyte is tough but not as hard as the Tiger Vanguard you just beat. Watch out for his fancy sword moves though. Once you beat him you’ll automatically get the Old Rattle-Drum.
Now that you have the Old Rattle-Drum you need to use it in three different places. Here’s where to go:
Head back to the Windrest Hamlet Shrine. Go in the opposite direction from where you fought the Tiger’s Acolyte. Enter the main doors of the hamlet and take the first left. You’ll see some enemies kneeling around an empty square.
As you get close the screen will turn grey and you’ll hear a child’s voice. Walk into the area and use the Rattle-Drum.
Fast travel to the Valley of Despair Shrine. You need to have beaten both the Tiger Vanguard and Stone Vanguard to open the big doors near the shrine.
Go down the stairs past the doors then turn right under the wooden structure. Go out the other side and you’ll hear the child’s voice again. Use the Rattle-Drum in this area.
The last spot is back in Sandgate Village. Go to the area where you fought the Earth Wolf boss. It’s on the other side of the door in front of the Village Entrance Shrine. If the door’s locked go the long way around the right side.
Once you’re there go through the hole in the wall between the door and the giant Buddha statue. Round the corner and use the Rattle-Drum one last time.
After using the Rattle-Drum in Sandgate Village you’ll see the spirit of a boy. He’ll jump down a nearby well. Follow him by interacting with the well. This takes you to a secret area called the Bottom of the Well.
At the Bottom of the Well, you’ll face a tough boss called the Mad Tiger. He’s like a stronger version of the Tiger Vanguard. He’s fast and hits hard with most of his attacks.
Use your best skills and spells, especially Immobilize and either the Red Tides or Azure Dust Transformation Spell.
Once you beat the Mad Tiger you can get his Spirit using your Blessed Gourd. There’s also a chest at the far end of the arena. Inside you’ll find the Plaguebane Gourd. This special gourd gives less healing but boosts your damage for a short time after drinking.
While the rewards might not seem amazing the real treat is finding this hidden area and challenging boss. It’s a cool secret you might have missed otherwise.
There you have it! That’s everything you need to know about the Old Rattle-Drum quest in Black Myth Wukong. It’s a bit of a trek but worth the experience and items. Happy questing!
