In Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong you can take on a secret quest to find and defeat the Mad Tiger. This optional boss fight is hidden behind a series of steps involving an item called the Old Rattle-Drum.
You’ll get the Mad Tiger Spirit which likely grants you new abilities and other items to upgrade your skills. Here’s how to find and defeat Mad Tiger, and earn those rewards in Black Myth: Wukong.
The quest to face Mad Tiger starts in the Yellow Wind Formation area. First, you need to get your hands on the Old Rattle-Drum.
This key item drops when you beat the Tiger’s Acolyte boss. You’ll find this boss on a bridge in Windrest Hamlet. Once you’ve got the drum, you’re ready to track Mad Tiger down.
To find Mad Tiger you’ll need to use the Old Rattle-Drum in three different spots:
You’ll see a ghostly kid after using the drum in these three spots. He’ll tell you to jump down a well to meet an “old friend”. That friend is Mad Tiger and jumping down starts the boss fight. Make sure you’re ready before you take the plunge!
Mad Tiger is a tough boss but with the right strategy, you can take him down. Here are some tips to help you win the battle:
Mad Tiger has a bunch of different attacks you need to watch out for:
Boss Attack | Description | Counter |
Roar | Damages nearby players and causes rocks to fall from the ceiling. | Move away quickly when you see Mad Tiger preparing to roar. |
Punch Combo | Series of quick punches, ending with a big swipe. | Dodge or use the Rock Solid ability for the final swipe. |
Ground Slam | Slams fists into the ground, causing rocks to fall or shoot out. | Watch for the windup and move to a safe spot. |
Leaping Attack | Jumps at you, sometimes changing direction mid-air. | Wait until the last moment to dodge, as he may fake you out. |
Grab Attack | Attempts to grab and slam you if you stagger him. | Be extra cautious when Mad Tiger is staggered. |
Projectile Attack | Shoots something from his mouth after a long roar. | Keep your distance and be ready to dodge when you hear the extended roar. |
Boulder Throw | Picks up and throws a massive boulder. | Watch for him picking up the boulder and prepare to dodge. |
Rage Combo | Long series of attacks when enraged. | Use the Immobilize spell or transformation to survive this onslaught. |
The trickiest part of this fight is Mad Tiger’s long combos. He can chain together a lot of attacks that are hard to dodge. If you see him getting worked up be ready to dodge a lot or use a transformation to tank the hits.
Beating Mad Tiger isn’t easy but it’s worth it! You’ll get:
There’s also a chest in the well that has a Plaguebane Gourd. Don’t forget to grab it before you leave!
Remember Mad Tiger is an optional boss. If you’re having trouble you can always come back later with more upgraded skills and abilities. But with practice, you can quickly take down this boss enemy and unlock the rest of the story in Black Myth: Wukong.
