One of the many side quests and discoveries awaiting players in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the hunt for the legendary Pirate King’s Treasure.

This optional quest becomes available in Chapter 12 and tasks players with tracking down four hidden grottos scattered across the world’s oceans. Inside each grotto lies a powerful relic guarded by a ferocious monster.

Defeat all four guardians and you’ll earn the pieces needed to forge the ultra-useful Corsair’s Compass accessory.

To kick off the Pirate King’s Treasure quest line, players must first reach Chapter 12 and locate the glowing purple chest at the port in Costa del Sol.

Opening this chest will reveal a map pointing the way to the four fabled Pirate King’s Grottos and their respective relics. With the map in hand, players can set sail aboard the Tiny Bronco to hunt down each grotto one by one.

First Stop: Pirate King’s Grotto α

According to Corsair’s map, the first relic – Pirate Relic α (Alpha), can be found guarded by the Ogre Raider monster in a grotto south of Gongaga Port.

This hulking fiend grows stronger the longer the battle rages, so coming prepared with Ice Materia to exploit its elemental weakness is crucial.

Second Stop: Pirate King’s Grotto β

The second stop is Pirate King’s Grotto β (Beta) located southeast of Under Junon Port at the base of a lighthouse. Here, the Brineborn Demon awaits with the β relic in its clutches.

Careful positioning is key to defeating the Brineborn Demon, as this boss enters a deadly Counterstance that can only be interrupted by staggering it with Fire Materia.

Third Stop: Pirate King’s Grotto γ

Northeast of Costa del Sol lies the third grotto housing Pirate Relic γ (Gamma) behind a narrow inlet. Guarding it is the lightning-fast Hueyacoatl which rapidly alternates between low and supercharged electrical states.

The key is equipping Wind Materia and attacking only when it’s supercharged, then quickly dodging its paralytic counterattacks.

Fourth Stop: Pirate King’s Grotto δ

The final relic, Pirate Relic δ (Delta) awaits in the northernmost grotto past a second large island.

To claim it, players must beat the terrifying Sea Dragon, a beast surrounded by flames that can only be defeated with Poison Materia. With the flames extinguished, Lightning spells are the only attacks capable of staggering this juggernaut.

The Power of Corsair’s Compass Revealed

Defeating all four boss monsters and obtaining every piece of Pirate King’s Treasure allows you to finally craft Corsair’s Compass at a workbench.

This accessory partitions your ATB gauge into three segments after using five different command types, greatly improving your combat capabilities.

And that’s not all. The Corsair’s Compass has another fantastic use in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth! While sailing the open seas with it, a compass appears on-screen pointing you toward hidden “Pirate King’s Scraps” materials.

According to Red XIII, collecting these scraps could lead to even more “amazing treasure” down the line.

So for those seeking an additional challenge beyond the main story, the Pirate King’s Treasure quest offers a truly rewarding experience. Not only will you earn the ultra-versatile Corsair’s Compass, but there may be even more fantastic prizes awaiting. Set sail and see what treasures await!
