Step 1: Following Ryoma to Honnoji Temple
Begin the quest by following Ryoma through the streets of Kyoto, heading towards a burning building in the distance.
Upon reaching the gate of Honnoji Temple, players will find a Testament of the Soul nearby. While free roam is temporarily restricted, the Testament of the Soul allows for replaying previous missions.
Step 2: Fate of the Vanquished
Speak with Ryoma to initiate the Fate of the Vanquished sub-mission, a crucial step in progressing the main story. The objective is to break through the shogunate army’s line, dispatching enemies and uncovering valuable loot along the way.
Be cautious of the powerful enemies scattered throughout the area, as they pose a significant threat.
Step 3: Finding Takasugi and the Choshu Retainers
As players navigate the war-torn landscape, an optional objective becomes available: tracking down four Choshu Retainers hidden nearby.
Locating these allies will reward players with valuable items such as Medicinal Pills and Handgun Bullets. The second Choshu Retainer will reveal Takasugi’s location, updating the quest objectives.
Step 4: Heading to the Main Hall
Before proceeding to the main hall, players should explore the area thoroughly, breaking crates and crawling through hidden spaces to find the remaining Choshu Retainers and collect additional loot.
A Treasure Chest containing the Yasuke armor set can be found by breaking crates near the Black Marketeer and dropping down to the ledge below. Equipping all four pieces of the set will unlock the Resonance achievement/trophy.
Step 5: Boss Battle – Soji Okita
Upon reaching the main hall, players will face off against the formidable Soji Okita in a boss battle. Employ strategic combat techniques and exploit Okita’s weaknesses to emerge victorious.

As players ascend the temple grounds, they will encounter numerous enemies, including two powerful foes. Employ stealth tactics, such as utilizing tall grass and rooftops, to ambush soldiers and gain the upper hand in combat.
Locate the crawlspace within the main temple building and navigate the narrow passages, looting chests and descending through an opening on the floor to reach the final confrontation.
Step 8: Boss Battle – Takamori Saigo and Tsun
Engage in a thrilling boss battle against Takamori Saigo and his companion, Tsun. Adapt to their unique combat styles and exploit any weaknesses to secure victory.
Upon defeating Saigo, players will establish a bond with him, opening up new opportunities for building relationships and unlocking additional content.
Step 9: The Dive of the Ronin
The viewing deck of Kiyomizudera Temple, where the battle against Saigo takes place, presents an opportunity for a daring feat. Players can attempt to glide from the elevated deck to the ground below, unlocking the Dive of the Ronin achievement/trophy. Completing The Satsuma-Choshu Alliance will reward players with coins, experience points, and a set of miniature guardian statues: Jikokuten, Tanmonten, Zojoten, and Komokuten.
