The following is the step-by-step guide on how to complete the Encroaching Shadows quest in Rise of the Ronin:
Step 1: Inquire about the Person Who Was After Taka
Your first step is to talk to Taka Murayama when she asks to speak with you during the Yokohama’s Shadow quest. She’ll mention a favor she needs help with, and you’ll notice the dialogue option has an orange icon, indicating it’s a quest.
Head northwest, near the river, to where the quest marker is located on your map. As you approach, a man will start attacking you, along with two ninja enemies. Focus on taking down the man first, as he seems to be the primary threat.
After the fight, Kichi Saito will inform you that Taka has been kidnapped, and the culprits demand that the “traitor” (you) go to them alone at the Benten Shrine to the northeast.
Step 2: Head to Taka’s Rescue
Make your way to the Benten Shrine, approaching from the southern side where the main entrance is located.
As you arrive, you’ll encounter a pair of Veiled Edge enemies, Ushio and Sayori, guarding the shrine. These enemies can be challenging when they attack together, so try to separate them if possible.
Once you’ve defeated the enemies, loot the Benten Shrine Key from their bodies and use it to open the locked door of the shrine, where you’ll find Taka Murayama.
Step 3: Talk to Taka
After rescuing Taka, you’ll have the opportunity to deepen your bond with her.
Choose the “Forgive me” option to show your remorse, and then select “Of course” when she asks to ride with you.
Step 4: Head to the Room Where Taka Is
Ride back to the Miyozaki Pleasure District, and speak with the woman named Kichi who asked you to save Taka. Then, head upstairs to Taka’s room to meet Naosuke Ii, the Red Demon himself.
If you have the Speechcraft: Intimidate skill, choose the “I don’t buy it. Speak the truth” option to further strengthen your bond with Taka.
Afterward, you’ll have the chance to ask Naosuke Ii about the Samurai with the Demon Claw and further end the quest.
