Veiled Edge Village is a small village that serves as the training grounds for the Veiled Edge clan. The village is nestled among rolling hills and features a variety of structures, including a Bladesmith’s workshop, training areas, and strategic checkpoints known as Veiled Edge Banners.

Step 1: Character Customization and Blade Sharpening Origin Selection

As the game begins, you’ll have the opportunity to customize your two protagonists and select their Blade Sharpening Origin. 

This decision will provide a starting point for your character’s progression, but don’t worry – you’ll have the chance to adjust your Blade Sharpening Origin later on if you change your mind.

Step 2: Head to the Bladesmith’s location

Next, your Blade Twin will take the lead, guiding you through the initial steps of your mission. Follow your companions as they head toward the Bladesmith’s location. 

Along the way, you’ll come across the Veiled Edge Banner, an important checkpoint that you’ll want to make note of. These banners serve as respawn points, restoring your health and replenishing your supplies, though they also cause nearby enemies to reappear.

Step 3: Choosing Your Weapons and Honing Your Skills

As you follow your Blade Twin, you’ll reach a training area where you’ll need to select two weapons to begin your journey. The available weapon options are:

• Polearm – Good for the Seducer Blade Sharpening Origin
• Katana – Good for the Killer Blade Sharpening Origin
• Spear – Good for the Sapper Blade Sharpening Origin
• Paired Swords – Good for the Breaker Blade Sharpening Origin
• Odachi – Good for the Killer Blade Sharpening Origin

Carefully consider your options, as the weapon types correspond to the different Blade Sharpening Origins. Once you’ve made your selection, test out the weapons on the nearby target dummy, familiarizing yourself with their moves and abilities. 

Note: You can perform various attacks, such as normal attacks (Square), advancing attacks (L↑ + Square), and charge attacks (hold Square). Additionally, you can lock onto your target by pressing R3.

Step 4: Defeat Your Brethren

Armed and prepared, it’s time to put your skills to the test. Your Blade Twin will lead you through a series of encounters, where you’ll face off against your brethren. These battles will teach you how to manage your stamina (Ki) and use Martial Skills to deal heavy damage and disrupt your opponents’ balance.

During fights, watch your Ki closely since running out of it will leave you vulnerable. Consume Medicinal Pills, which you can loot from fallen enemies, to restore your health and replenish your Ki.

The game’s control system allows you to map your Medicinal Pills to the D-Pad for quick access during intense battles.

Step 5: Train with your Blade Twin

One of the key combat techniques you’ll need to master is the Counterspark. This precise timing-based parry allows you to deflect enemy attacks and leave them vulnerable to your own strikes. 

Your Blade Twin will guide you through a series of training exercises, starting with the basics of Countersparks and then progressing to chaining Countersparks against their multi-hit combos.

Pay close attention to your Blade Twin’s attack patterns and practice your timing. Mastering the Counterspark will give you a significant advantage in the battles to come, as it allows you to disrupt your opponents’ momentum and open up opportunities for devastating counterattacks.

Step 6: Bladesmith Training

After honing your skills, you’ll be put to the test in a challenging encounter with the Bladesmith.

This seasoned warrior will showcase a diverse array of attacks, from charging overhead slashes to swift jab combos. Observe her patterns, learn her moves, and utilize your full arsenal of techniques to emerge victorious.

• When facing the Bladesmith, it’s best to fight reactively rather than proactively.
• This fighting style will allow you to learn the Bladesmith’s tendencies and identify openings between their attacks.
• Focus on depleting the Bladesmith’s Ki to break their stance and open windows for you to dish out Critical Hits.

Furthermore, it’s highly recommended to alternate between your two protagonists during this fight. Using one character to draw the Bladesmith’s aggression before quickly switching to your Blade Twin allows you to unleash a flurry of attacks while minimizing the risk of taking damage.

Remember, your protagonists have independent Ki meters, so this strategy enables you to sustain your offensive without quickly depleting your stamina.

Once you’ve bested the Bladesmith, a cutscene will play, and you’ll be tasked with the next mission: Infiltrating the Black Ships anchored in Yokohama to steal a secret message from Commodore Perry.
