Beat Nephro boss in Another Crab’s Treasure to get Microplastics and the Shell system as rewards. Our guide covers gear, moves, and more.
Nephro, Captain of the Guard, is the first boss you encounter in Another Crab’s Treasure, a charming Soulslike game starring a brave hermit crab named Kril. Despite being an early boss, Nephro can prove to be a difficult challenge for unprepared players. This guide will walk you through the process of locating, understanding, and ultimately defeating this intimidating foe.
The most effective strategy for defeating Nephro is to stick to his left-hand side as much as possible. This positioning causes Nephro to enter a loop where he doesn’t attack, allowing Kril to continuously chip away at his health. If Kril moves behind Nephro, the boss will perform a kick attack, but this can be easily dodged by rolling away.
Another useful technique is to practice parrying Nephro’s attacks using Kril’s shell. By entering the shell and timing the parry correctly, players can block a significant portion of the damage dealt by Nephro’s attacks.
When Nephro’s health bar starts flashing, indicating that his posture is broken, players should seize the opportunity to perform a charged heavy attack for increased damage.
Nephro has a diverse move set that you must learn to recognize and counter effectively:
Attack | Description | Image |
Sword Swing | Nephro swings his sword in a wide arc, dealing significant damage. This attack can be blocked.
Claw Swing | Nephro swings his left claw when Kril is too close for the sword.
Lance Charge | Nephro holds his swords in front of him, kicks up his front legs, and charges forward.
Back Kick | If Kril attempts to attack Nephro from behind, the boss will kick out its hind legs.
Claw Grab | Nephro tries to grab Kril with his left claw and drags Kril along the sand. |
To locate Nephro, you must first approach Duchess Magista’s castle, where the guards will inform you that entry requires a shell. They will then direct you to the east, where a path of plastic bits leads to a knocked-over vending machine.
Interacting with the vending machine’s coin mechanism will dispense five empty soda cans, which Kril can use as shells. Upon selecting a can, a cutscene will trigger, introducing Nephro as he charges towards Kril.
While Nephro’s drops may not be as impressive as you might expect from a first boss, the rewards for defeating him are still pretty significant. You will receive a substantial amount of Microplastics, which can be used to level up Kril’s stats at Moon Snail Shells.
More importantly, defeating Nephro grants Kril permanent access to the shell system, with shells now spawning throughout the game world for Kril to collect and use for safety.
So go fight the first boss and start your long and thrilling journey in Another Crab’s Treasure!
