Transferring resources in Frostpunk 2 can be tricky, but it becomes much easier once you’re familiar with the mechanics. In this guide, we’ll use the example of transferring oil to New London as part of the campaign.

Before transferring resources, you must establish a Settlement and upgrade it to a Colony. This process involves building a Settlement, upgrading it to Colony status, and constructing an Oil Extraction District.

Once your colony is set up, follow these steps to access the resource transfer menu:

  1. Locate the Old Dreadnought colony icon (resembling an oil barrel) next to the Frostlands mountain icon
  2. Click on the colony icon to open the colony panel
  3. Look for three icons in the panel:
    • Box with arrows on either side
    • Three people with arrows on either side
    • Eye with an arrow pointing downwards
  4. Click on the first icon (box with arrows) to open the Resource Transfer menu

The Resource Transfer menu allows you to move various resources between colonies and New London:

  • Coal
  • Oil
  • Food
  • Materials
  • Goods

To transfer oil from the Old Dreadnought to New London, locate the oil slider in the Resource Transfer menu. Hover over the slider to view the colony’s oil production surplus, then move the slider to the right to transfer oil to New London.

Always ensure your colonies receive enough supplies for basic maintenance from New London. Use the “Meet Demand” button (represented by scales) to prioritize meeting a colony’s specific resource needs.

You can also transport stockpiled resources between locations. Ensure the source location has a sufficient stockpile and check that the destination has enough stockpile capacity. Then, adjust sliders accordingly to move stockpiled resources.

Transferring Population

Unlike the capital city, colony populations don’t increase automatically. To keep all Districts working efficiently, you may need to transfer workers:

  1. Click the second icon (three people with arrows) in the Old Dreadnought panel
  2. Use the slider in the Population Transfer menu to move workers between your city and colony

The game will warn if too many workers are being transferred. Removing more workers than employed can deactivate districts and buildings in the source location.

Key Considerations

  • Travel Time: Transferring workers takes time. Check the estimated travel time in the top-right corner of the screen, above the Frostlands icon.
  • Resource Balance: Regularly check and adjust resource transfers to maintain a balance between your main city and colonies.
  • Population Management: Monitor worker distribution to ensure all locations have adequate staffing for essential operations.

Conclusion

Mastering resource transfer in Frostpunk 2 is essential for survival and progression. By efficiently moving oil, other resources, and workers between your main city and colonies, you can ensure a steady supply chain and maintain a thriving civilization in the harsh, frozen world.

Remember to regularly check and adjust your transfers as your city and colonies grow and their needs change.
