Learn how elements work in Wuthering Waves and optimize your team with our guide on attributes, resistances, and building your Resonators.
Wuthering Waves features a unique elemental system that differs from other games in the genre, such as Genshin Impact. While elements play a role in combat, the game does not include elemental reactions or combinations that significantly affect team-building strategies.
In this guide, we will explore how elements work in Wuthering Waves, their impact on gameplay, and how to make the most of them when assembling your team.
In Wuthering Waves, each character, known as a Resonator, is associated with one of six primary attributes or elements:
Resonators deal damage corresponding to their element through various attack types, including Basic Attacks, Heavy Attacks, Skills, and Resonance Ultimates. Enemies in the game are also associated with specific elements, and attacks against enemies of the same element will be resisted.
Unlike some other games, Wuthering Waves does not have a set system of elemental weaknesses and resistances. Not every enemy with a particular elemental theme will be weak to attacks from Resonators of a specific element. However, this does not mean that elemental resistances are entirely absent from the game.
Certain enemies, particularly bosses, may have increased resistance to specific elements. For example, the Thundering Mephis boss is resistant to Electro damage. It is important to note that while elemental resistances exist in Wuthering Waves, there are no elemental weaknesses that allow players to deal bonus damage with the right elemental matchup.
To determine an enemy’s elemental resistances, players can consult the Echo Hunting section of their Guidebook. Keep in mind that not all enemies have elemental resistances, but many do, especially in endgame content like the Tower of Adversity. Researching enemy resistances before engaging in challenging battles can help players avoid bringing Resonators that deal resisted damage, which can hinder their success.
